CENTER ON HALSTED AND HOWARD BROWN HEALTH CENTER ANNOUNCE NIGHT OF FALLEN STARS

TRANSGENDER AWARENESS MONTH EVENT

NOVEMBER 21, 2009

 

Chicago — October 29, 2009: In recognition of Transgender Awareness Month, Howard Brown Health Center, the Broadway Youth Center and Center on Halsted will collaborate on Night of Fallen Stars: a celebration of Chicago’s transgender community, Saturday, November 21, 5:30 – 7pm reception, 7 - 9pm performance at Center on Halsted located at 3656 N. Halsted in Chicago. .

 

The event is generously co-sponsored by Equality Illinois and Illinois Gender Advocates. The evening celebrates and unites Chicago’s transgender community, while remembering the lives lost in gender-focused hate crimes. Transgender artists will perform music, dance, comedy, and poetry. Special appearance by Jaila Simms, the first Transgendered artist to win a reality series MTV/P. Diddy's "Making His Band" Official member of Bad Boy's "Dirty Money Crew."

 

“This is a very exciting time for trans people throughout Chicago,” stated Casey Schwartz, Transgender Youth Specialist at Howard Brown’s Broadway Youth Center.  “Transgender people are increasingly more visible within the community at large. Night of the Fallen Stars is a celebration of this inclusion and a showcase for the many talents in our community” added Christina Kahrl, Transgender Program Liaison at the Center on Halsted, “The historic legacy of the trans community is rich. However, these performers reflect the present and demonstrate that our future will be richer still,” concludes Kahrl.
