Position Title: IT Project Consultant

Essential Functions: This position reports to the COO and will work on a variety of IT projects. Projects include Access database development, staff training, Windows 2003 server deployment and management, strategic planning, workstation upgrades, and assistance with articulating agency technology use policy and procedure.
Access database development includes design, creation, testing, deployment, training, report generation, and ongoing updates for each of the Center on Halsted’s programs. This position requires superior Access database programming/development skills including experience with VB coding as well as superior communication skills. An ability to convey technical concepts to laypersons, provide ongoing training and technical support, to quickly develop new databases as needed, to author training materials and provide training, and to hold staff accountable for consistently entering data is essential.
Other projects may include technology troubleshooting, network administration, phone system administration, ongoing technology maintenance and upgrades, and articulating technology use policy and procedure.
An ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and manage crisis is paramount for this position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serves as administrator for all Center on Halsted Access databases and ensures databases are backed up regularly
- Provides training for Center Access databases, technical support as needed, and holds staff accountable for entering data as needed
- Develops Access databases as needed
- Conducts needs assessments to determine programmatic needs
- Creates and develops database
- Tests and revises database as needed
- Ensures data entry forms are easy to read and aesthetically pleasing
- Builds reports as needed for existing and emerging needs
- Creates training materials and provides user training
- Periodically reviews data entry and hold staff accountable
- Provides technical support as needed
- Ensures database is secure
- Reviews and proposes revisions to IT policy and procedures as needed; ensures IT agreements are signed and understood by staff and volunteers.
- Provides computer tech support (XP desktops, Vista laptops, Office Pro 2007)
- Windows 2003 server deployment and administration, including installation of Windows 2003 backup server
- Computer Maintenance (hardware and software installation and troubleshooting for laptops and desktops)
- Disaster recovery: perform nightly backups, testing, etc.
- May assist with grant writing for technology-related proposals and strategic planning
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Masters degree preferred; Bachelors degree or comparable Advanced Technical Degree required;
- Minimum 3 years experience as Manager of Information Systems required;
- Teaching experience preferred; previous computer instruction, e.g. software and general computer literacy, experience strongly preferred;
- Windows 2003 Server, Exchange Server, and Windows XP certification preferred;
- Access database programming proficiency required; (Proficiency test administered prior to interview.)
- Avaya IP Office phone system administration experience preferred;
- Flexibility to work extra hours, weekends, and evenings required;
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and manage crisis is paramount for this position;
- Goal orientated and strong problem solving abilities required;
- Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs and concerns of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities;
- Bilingual/bicultural desirable; and,
- Enthusiasm and commitment to Center on Halsted essential.

Mission: In a safe and nurturing environment, the Center on Halsted serves as a catalyst for the LGBT community that links and provides resources and enriches life experience.
Essential Functions: Oversees the program providing a safe space and services for youth who are homeless. Assures the completion of intakes and risk assessments for youth who are homeless. Assures all clients in need have been assigned a case manager. Provides individual and group counseling, and prevention case management. Provides individual and group education on HIV/STD prevention, drug and alcohol use/abuse; safety/violence prevention; mental health issues including strengthening self-esteem.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide clients with comprehensive case management and supportive services needed to meet the goals outlined in their individual service plans.
- Provide counseling and mentoring clients in both individual and group settings.
- Deliver life skills training through both formal and informal techniques to address important skills such as conflict resolution, financial management and budgeting, health and nutrition, mental and emotional health, safe sex, etc.
- Refer clients to other supportive services as needed, including housing, food pantries, clothing closets, legal aid services, substance abuse and mental health counseling, etc.
- Work with clients to address barriers to obtaining and maintaining stable housing.
- Assist clients in obtaining financial assistance as needed.
- Support clients in their housing search and assist them in obtaining appropriate documentation as required.
- Advocating for clients as needed to obtain wrap around services.
- Maintain excellent and open communication with clients and following-up with clients on a regular basis.
- Assist in the oversight of the Youth Program space, volunteers and services while youth who are homeless are being served.
- Engage and support participants in COH’s Youth Career Development Center program by: assessing potential participants to determine eligibility and identify strengths and needs, and to engage new participants in the career development program.
- Work with participants to address barriers to obtaining and maintaining stable employment or entering vocational training programs and institutions of higher education.
- Utilize COH’s program evaluation tools and systems to track and monitor client information and outcome measures to evaluate client progress.
- Document all interactions with clients in the program’s record keeping system and compiles monthly and quarterly reports on client service provision as requested.
- Contribute to the overall success of COH by attending weekly staff meetings, case review meetings and other staff trainings, working in team approach to develop new programs, and working consistently within COH’s mission, vision, and values.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Masters degree in social work or related field.
- Bilingual (Spanish) ability is strongly favored.
- Experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with homeless and other at-risk youth is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of computers essential.
- Strong commitment to personal and professional development required.
