SAGE Vision:
To model, promote, and contribute to the healthy aging of the LGBT community.
SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders) at Center on Halsted , in collaboration with Chicagoland’s older adult population, offers comprehensive programming based on the holistic wellness model. Specific program offerings are informed by participant input, research in LGBT aging, planning meetings and the guidance of the 16-member SAGE Advisory Council. Current areas of programming are education, civic engagement, health and wellness, social and cultural programs, resource and referral information, a Friendly Visitor program for isolated LGBT elders and intergenerational programs.
SAGE COH participates in the national conversation regarding LGBT aging by 1) partnering with local and national organization to offer services and increase LGBT representation in senior organizations nationwide 2) advocating for aging issues on Capital Hill 3) presenting program successes and challenges at national conferences, in publications and interviews and in internet-based resource guides and forums.
