Eligible Candidates: Students pursuing doctoral degrees in clinical or counseling psychology at APA accredited programs.
Position Description: Students gain experience providing individual, couples, and group psychotherapy services for clients from a wide range of racial, ethnic and social backgrounds. Most clientele identify as LGBTQ, but this is not necessary for individuals to receive services. Interns accepted into the program generally have a familiarity with these populations, but are not expected to have specific expertise or clinical experience.
Position Cycle & Duration: Annual placement, 10 months/800 hours
Placement Date(s): Starts in mid-July
Schedule: There is a great deal of flexibility in developing a 20 hour/week schedule in the program. Mental Health Services operates Monday through Thursday 9am - 9pm, Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturday 10am - 3pm. Trainees are required to include one evening and/or Saturday hours in their schedule. It is a requirement that students will attend weekly group consultation meetings on Wednesdays, from 10am - 3pm. Students may revise their schedules each semester or quarter, as required.
Supervision Structure: Interns meet with their primary supervisor (a licensed clinical social worker) for one hour of individual supervision on a weekly basis. Students will also participate in weekly group case consultations, staffing meetings, and the Chicago LGBTQ Behavioral Health Training Consortium seminar series.

Training Position: Youth Career Development Center Program Intern
Center on Halsted Program: Youth Program
Eligible Candidates: Bachelor’s & Master’s level students
Position Description: Support YCDC staff who provide educational and vocational services to youth in the Region 1 Youth Career Development Center. Areas of responsibility include assistance with recruitment of youth, providing job readiness skills training, collect, collate, and file YCDC information. Other projects will include assisting in the recruitment, implementation and follow-up with youth mentoring program. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist in Youth Program/YCDC outreach activities and monitor the youth space as needed.
The Youth Career Development Center (YCDC) at Center on Halsted is a city-funded program whose mission is to provide job readiness training for young adults ages 14-21. We assist the participants in developing and strengthening the skills that will foster success and self-sufficiency, both in the workplace and their personal lives. The graduates of our 30-hour program learn soft skills, such as interviewing skills, resume and cover letter writing, goal setting, money management and budgeting, professional etiquette, conflict resolution, and job development.
Position Cycle & Duration: Open recruitment unless otherwise stated
Placement Date(s): Flexible timeline /5-20 hours per week
Schedule: There is a great deal of flexibility within the Youth Program. YCDC Trainings are scheduled throughout the day and also evenings and weekends.

Center on Halsted Program: SAGE (Services and Advocacy for LGBT Elders)
Eligible Candidates: Students in master’s level art therapy program
Position Description: Students gain experience assisting in the provision of art therapy services for clients from a wide range of racial, ethnic and social backgrounds. Most clientele identify as LGBTQ, but this is not necessary for individuals to receive services. For example, COH has a long history of providing specialized care for HIV/AIDS impacted clients regardless of their identity. Clientele is also representative of many subgroups within the larger LGBTQ community. Interns accepted into the program generally have a familiarity with these populations, but are not expected to have specific expertise or clinical experience.
Position Cycle & Duration: Annual placement, 1 or 2 semesters depending on student.
Placement Date(s): Flexible
Schedule: There is a great deal of flexibility in developing a schedule in the program. SAGE offers programs during the day, evenings and weekends. Trainees are required to include one evening and/or Saturday hours in their schedule. Students may revise their schedules each semester or quarter, as required.

Training Position: Training Services Intern
Center on Halsted Program: Training Services.
Eligible Candidates: Undergraduate and graduate students.
Position Description: Students gain valuable insight into the function and value of the Training Services at Center on Halsted. Primary responsibilities include management of the Training feedback database, participation in and planning of training events, and administrative support. Interns accepted into the program generally have a familiarity with LGBTQ populations, but are not expected to have specific expertise. Students who have experienced success in this position have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently.
Position Cycle & Duration: Rolling throughout the year.
Placement Date(s): To be arranged individually.
Schedule: There is a great deal of flexibility in developing a 10-20 hour/week schedule in the program. Only weekdays are available, from the hours of roughly 9am - 5pm.
Supervision Structure: Interns meet with their supervisor on a regular basis to discuss interests, goals, and projects. Weekly meetings are arranged between the intern and the supervisor in order to coordinate scheduling and to assess progress.
