Center on Halsted: Hoover-Leppen Theater

Bodies in Play. This is a blank page, a story in motion.his is a blank page is an evening of movement-theater directed and performed by Andrew Pearson.

With inspiration pulled directly from the pages of his own journals as well as from various pages of, for lack of a better term, self-help books, Andrew has crafted 3-part solo series that examines the pursuit of happiness, as seen through the eyes of a gay millennial. The work tackles themes surrounding masculine and feminine identities, search for romantic and self love, the quest for success, and scarcity vs. abundance.

Andrew Pearson is a Los Angeles-based movement artist, and the byproduct of what happens when youthful aspirations for becoming a Pop Princess meet classical modern dance training. this is a blank page finds the intersection of these aesthetics to self-examine certain habits and beliefs, as well as tackle a quintessential question of the modern Industrialized world: “Am I unhappy?” or more specifically, “Do I have any RIGHT to be unhappy?”

The result is both silly and sincere, fanciful yet grounded — a dance-theater performance designed to connect audiences not only with the performer on stage, but also to the narratives of their own lives. While the program is intended for all audiences, parental guidance is advised due to minimal profanity and sexual undertones. In conjunction with this performance, Andrew will be holding a movement workshop for bodies of all levels and backgrounds.

Operating under the belief that dance is a social activity, Andrew approaches teaching as a sharing of ideas, experiences, and passions, aiming to provide tools that will allow movers to find both strength and freedom in their bodies in order to awaken our potential as well as our pleasure for movement. The workshop is designed to promote healthy relationships between our bodies and the way we interact with the bodies of others. Special thanks to Tom Sinkovic, Lead Sponsor of Bodies in Play
