LGBTQ PARENTING ROUNDTABLE
EVENT DATE
Thursday, January 31, 2019
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
LOCATION Center on Halsted
DESCRIPTION
The Cradle is hosting a roundtable discussion designed to promote an honest and open dialogue about the realities of LGBTQ parenting. This event is part of The Cradle’s ongoing Our Children initiative, which aims to give diverse families the tools they need to better understand, support and parent their children. The definition of family has broadened considerably, and the way that a family may look today is very different from the traditional family of yesteryear. Our panel, which will be comprised of LGBTQ parents and adult children who were raised in same-gender households, will discuss issues prevalent in their own families, such as: - how LGBTQ parents talk to their children about their family and address tough questions their children may ask
- how children in LGBTQ families can talk openly and comfortably about their family life to teachers, classmates and friends
- what language is used in schools to define “family” and whether prejudice exists in our school system toward children with LGBTQ parents
A question and answer session will follow the discussion. We encourage attendees to engage with our panelists.
We will also share resources that connect participants to various organizations that are actively involved in educating and empowering LGBTQ families. Stay tuned for panelist introductions.
PRICE $20 per person. Tickets and more info here: https://www.cradle.org/events-workshop/lgbtq-parenting-roundtable
