Center on Halsted - Chicago's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Community Center

Center on Halsted hosts several peer-led Community Groups who meet regularly for discussion, activity, and socializing. The Center provides a supportive space for these groups to gather and collaborate within the LGBTQ and Allied communities.

This group meets on the 4th Sunday each month, except holiday weekends.

Proud & Included is in its second year. In year two we are seeking LGBTQ organizations, agencies, and groups to assist us with our goal of connecting LGBTQ adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) with the mainstream LGBTQ community by embedding them in the LGBTQ organization, agency, or group of their choice.

Join us in the Proud & Included monthly meetings where our Self Advocates get to know other LGBTQ adults with IDD and individuals from the mainstream LGBTQ community, receive self-advocacy training, learn about resources and how to gain access to such resources, explore life experiences, gender and sexuality terminology, share wants and needs from the LGBTQ community, work through coming out experiences in a safe space, explore participation in inclusive events, and receive contraceptives and education on healthy sexuality.

In addition, during our second year we are preparing our Self Advocates for volunteerism, emoloyment, work place etiquette, serving on board of directors, event planning, and much more.

Those that are not LGBTQ adults with IDD are welcome to join meetings and events, as Allies, if they are willing to foster a safe, anti bullying, anti shaming, non judgmental environment for Participants to freely share and socialize.
