GENDER PASSING: A CONVERSATION WITH LAURA KRUGHOFF

EVENT DATE
Saturday, October 5, 2013
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

LOCATION
Sage Space

DESCRIPTION

Going back as far as Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, fiction can provide a portrait of gender through the eyes of other characters. How do we perform our gender roles and what does it mean to identify with a certain gender? Author Laura Krughoff's debut novel, MY BROTHER'S NAME, chronicles a girl who assumes her brother's identity and begins her new life as a young man. Join Laura in a discussion of gender passing and addressing the question, "Do people see what you tell them to see?". She will also be signing copies of her book.

Laura Krughoff lives in Chicago and teaches creative writing at Loyola University. She can often be found on stage at 2nd Story or at other readings around the city.
