The Dr. David J. Lochman Cyber Center’s mission is to provide technology and internet resources to help eliminate the digital divide, specifically for the LGBT populations in Chicago and surrounding communities.

General Information
The Cyber Center is designed to provide a safe, accepting, and nurturing environment for LGBT clients to express their individuality, cultivate relationships, develop their self-esteem, and connect with the LGBT community in Chicago.
The Cyber Center provides one on one individual instruction in general computer literacy, online resource searches, and assistance with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, InfoPath) applications. Courses designed to enhance computer literacy and proficiency are provided periodically to serve Center on Halsted clients. The Cyber Center also serves as a technology resource to Center on Halsted services and programs, available to staff for specialized training or programmatic needs.
Hours of Operation
Hours of operation are posted in the Cyber Center and are subject to change.
Public access hours are currently the following (these hours are subject to change):
Mondays: 11:30 to 3:00, 5:00 to 9:00
Tuesdays: 11:30 to 2:00, 5:00 to 7:30
Wednesdays: 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, 5:00 to 8:30
Thursdays: 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, 5:00 to 9:00
Fridays: 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 3:00 to 5:30
Sundays: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 3:00 to 5:30

Microsoft Word 2003, Level 1
This class is designed for the beginning Word user and includes:
- Understanding the Word windows and basics of entering text
- Editing documents, opening, closing and saving files
- Formatting text, copy & paste, drag and drop functions, and printing
- Margins, tabs, page numbers and headers & footers
Sundays February 8, 15, and 22 from 4:00 – 6:00
Class fee $15 - Sliding scale available
Microsoft Excel 2003, Level 1
This class is designed for the beginning Excel user and includes:
- Understanding the Excel worksheet and basics of entering data
- Editing worksheets, opening, closing and saving files
- Formatting worksheets and copy & paste
- Creating and entering basic functions in cells
- Previewing and printing worksheet data
Fridays February 13, 20, and 27 from 4:00 – 6:00
Class fee $15 - Sliding scale available

Introduction to Computers
This class is designed for the beginner computer user and covers:
- Hardware and Software
- Mouse and Keyboard skills
- Navigating Windows
- Working with Files and Folders
- Exploring the Internet and Email

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I use the lab?
The most up to date hours of operation are available in the Cyber Center. Call 773.661.0730 for a recording of our open access hours.
Do I have to do anything to use the lab? Is there a fee?
A brief intake is required. During the intake, you will complete an intake form, learn about the Cyber Center, the hours of operation, and receive a username and password to use in the future. Currently, there is no fee to use the Cyber Center.
Are there any rules I need to follow?
During your intake, you will be provided with a list of Cyber Center policies and asked to sign that you understand and agree to them.
What if I forget my password?
No problem. The Cyber Center attendant will be able to reset your password for you.
Are there any classes I can take?
The schedule of classes will be updated as new classes are added. Courses include Introduction to Computers and Microsoft Office classes. If interested in learning more about courses available to you, speak with a Cyber Center attendant.
What software may I use on CTC computers?
Each workstation is equipped with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, InfoPath), and Encyclopedia Britannica. Two copies of Encyclopedia Britannica Hispanic Heritage, Women Who Changed the World, and Guide to Black History are also available for use. Six workstations have Macromedia Studio MX installed, which includes Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Freehand and Extension Manager.
