Center on Halsted relies on individual giving and corporate sponsorships to support the many programs and services offered to the community. Every year we host a series of marquee events to educate the broader community about our work and to help raise the funds necessary to offer our diverse and successful programs. Through these events we acknowledge the great contributions of our benefactors and our shared work to build and strengthen the LGBT community for generations to come.
Since 1993, Center on Halsted has hosted its annual Human First Performance & Gala to recognize the contributions of individuals, businesses and organizations to the LGBT community in Chicago. Created because each individual, regardless of sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, age or gender is – above all – human first, the celebration welcomes 1,500 guests each year and has become the largest LGBT-focused gala in Chicago. Guests include corporate and foundation sponsors of the Center, civic and city leaders, local and national elected officials, major donors of the Center, as well as members and allies of the LGBT community. The show features opening remarks from a guest MC, an awards presentation and a musical or comedy performance. Past performers include Lily Tomlin, Oleta Adams, Linda Eder and Wanda Sykes.
In 2012, Center on Halsted plans to honor the leadership of Amina Dickerson, Laura Ricketts, Greg Cameron and Richard & Susan Kiphart with Human First Awards for their contributions to our shared community. The Community Spirit Awards will be awarded to Cubs Care, The Chicago Community Trust and Kraft Foods for their support of LGBT individuals and the unique issues facing our community. The 2012 Human First Performance & Gala is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.

On the Red Carpet is the annual Oscar event and fundraiser for Center on Halsted. One of the Center's signature events, On the Red Carpet welcomes over 400 donors, patrons and supporters to gather and enjoy the Academy Awards at a fun and festive event.
In 2011, On the Red Carpet raised more than $50,000 to support the many programs and services of Center on Halsted. The 2012 event is scheduled for Sunday, February 26th at the Park West Theatre, with Co-Chairs Cheryl Pearson-McNeil, The Nielsen Company, Connie Pierson, IBM, and Scott Silverman, Southern Wine & Spirits. Sponsors of the 2012 On the Red Carpet party include: The Nielsen Company, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, PNC Bank, Entertaining Company, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, MINI of Chicago and MillerCoors.
