| HIV Testing & Prevention ProgramDid you know that the Centers for Disease Control estimates that 250,000 persons are living with the HIV virus but do not know their status? Knowing your status can help you stay health and maintain a full, active lifestyle. We can help you find out your status, keep healthy, and even reduce your risk of infection. The HIV Testing & Prevention Program provides free HIV Testing at the Center on Halsted. All testing is done confidentially or anonymously using the OraQuick rapid testing device. This rapid testing is done using either an oral swab or finger stick and returns results in 20 minutes. In addition to rapid HIV Testing, our staff provides clients with emotional support, the most up-to-date, medically-accurate information on HIV, AIDS, and sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs), and state-wide referrals for healthcare and social services related to HIV, AIDS, and STDs. In the event of an HIV positive test result, the program will link clients to care so the client may access case management services, medical care, and additional services. Knowing that HIV testing can be an emotional experience, the program also has clinical services available for persons who are tested and need to speak to a mental health professional. The HIV Testing & Prevention Program, funded by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health, is run entirely by trained professionals who have undergone a comprehensive HIV/AIDS instructional program. This program enables staff to provide a wealth of information and referrals to clients. Free. Rapid. Confidential. Anonymous. Days. Weekends. Evenings.
