Want to volunteer in the LGBTQ community?

Whether you're new to Chicago and looking to meet people in the city or want to give back in your free time, Center on Halsted is the place to volunteer if you want to help strengthen the LGBTQ community. Our volunteers help run our special events, serve meals for our seniors, monitor the Cyber Center, greet visitors at the Reception Desk, welcome and check-in guests at our Community & Cultural programs, take calls on our 24-hour Crisis Line and much, much more!

To get started volunteering, we ask you first attend one of our monthly volunteer orientation sessions. These two-hour long orientations are your chance learn more about our history, our programs and services, upcoming and ongoing volunteer opportunities and get a tour of our award-winning building. It's also an opportunity for us to learn about your skills, talents and experiences and answer your questions about volunteering at Center on Halsted.

As a volunteer, you may work with clients, patrons and guests whose life experiences vary greatly from your own. Center on Halsted has a strict confidentiality policy for our volunteers to protect the privacy of our clients. As part of this policy, we require all volunteers to be 22 years of age or older to work with our programs. We do accept court-ordered volunteer service but on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Director of the Volunteer Program.

Have a question? Contact us at volunteers@centeronhalsted.org. Hope to see you soon!
