Want to volunteer in the LGBTQ community?

Whether you're new to Chicago and looking to meet people in the city or want to give back in your free time, Center on Halsted is the place to volunteer if you want to help strengthen the LGBTQ community. Our volunteers help run our special events, serve meals for our seniors, monitor the Cyber Center, greet visitors at the Reception Desk, welcome and check-in guests at our Community & Cultural programs, and much, much more!

To get started, new volunteers must register to attend an orientation session and a training session. These orientations are your chance to learn more about our history, our programs and services, upcoming and ongoing volunteer opportunities and get a tour of our award-winning building. The new training sessions are fun and interactive, and include LGBTQ 101 and cultural competency training to help further develop individual skill levels and empower volunteers to advance the LGBTQ movement. It's also an opportunity for us to learn about your skills, talents and experiences and answer your questions about volunteering at Center on Halsted. If you are an existing volunteer (prior to August 2013) click here to sign up for the new Volunteer Training Sessions.

As a volunteer, you may work with clients, patrons and guests whose life experiences vary greatly from your own. Center on Halsted has a strict confidentiality policy for our volunteers to protect the privacy of our clients. As part of this policy, we require all volunteers to be 22 years of age or older to work with our programs. We do accept court-ordered volunteer service but on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Director of the Volunteer Program.
