Substance Abuse Services: Long-term Residential

First Step House provides comprehensive, community-based substance abuse recovery housing services in a culturally appropriate manner for chronically homeless and low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS. Our program provides a therapeutic community and model program devoted to effecting change in the individual through a 12-Step model of recovery from chemical dependence. First Step House offers housing, individual and group counseling, health education, outpatient substance abuse treatment, case management and referrals to achieve housing stability, HIV/AIDS support, and addiction recovery support for our program participants. Appointment necessary for intake. Case managers are 8:30-5:00 M-F. •Homeless and/or chronically homeless •HIV positive •Referral from recent treatment facility, with at least 28 days of sobriety •Prior treatment history •Men and women 18+ years of age •Negative TB •Medically stable and able to participate in all activities

We provide mental health and substance abuse services, including individual and group therapy, to individuals who are HIV positive. Our goal is to improve the overall quality of life of individuals struggling with homelessness and various illnesses, including mental health and addictions issues. •Verification of HIV status •Negative TB test Must have appointments, but walk-ins are available for some groups.

Heartland Alliance - Neon Street Program, 4506 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60640
The Neon Street Center is a daytime drop-in program (M-F 9AM-9PM) that offers youth a safe haven from the streets. Services are provided to homeless youth and DCFS wards between the ages of 14 and 21 years (18-21 for residence). The Center offers three nutritious meals a day, shower and laundry facilities, educational and employment assistance, individual and group counseling, STD/HIV education and prevention, clothing, emergency shelter, referrals to additional services and culturally competent bilingual services, computer lab.
