Are you looking for companionship, extra income, or some help around the house? Do you live on the near north side of Chicago or want to? Are you looking for affordable housing?
HOMESHARING may be the answer you have been looking for!
Homesharing is a housing program that facilitates compatible matching between a renter and home provider. Center on Halsted, which offers this service free of charge, helps match potential applicants with each other, thoroughly screens all applicants through reference and background checks, and provides ongoing support to the homesharing matches. Homesharing is an affordable housing option for renters while offering providers extra income and assistance to age in place.
-
FINANCIAL SAVINGS
Homesharing Providers earn additional income and Homesharing Renters receive affordable housing in a desirable home setting.
- INDEPENDENCE AND WELL-BEING
Homesharing Providers can receive assistance with household chores to help them age in place and remain in the comfort of their own home.
- COMPANIONSHIP
Homesharing can reduce loneliness, connect participants to the LGBT community and help foster new friendships.
- SAFETY AND SECURITY
Participants can have peace of mind knowing that all Homesharing Providers and Renters have undergone a rigorous screening process.
HOMESHARING PROVIDERS
- Must have a minimum of two bedrooms in their home, condominium or apartment;
- Live in Chicago or the neighboring suburbs
HOMESHARING RENTERS
- Have an income of at least $750 per month;

- Are willing to live with an older adult
This program is provided free of charge. The amount of the rent, including utilities, is around $500 and may be less if the renter is providing household assistance to the home provider.
